دی گارڈین نے یوگنڈا کی ایک جینی نامی خاتون کا انٹرویو شائع کیا ہے۔ 20سالہ جینی نے بتایا کہ ”زچگی کے بعد جس روز میں گھر واپس آئی، اسی روز میرے شوہر نے مجھ سے مطالبہ کر دیا کہ میں اسے اپنا دودھ پلاﺅں۔ اس نے مجھے کہا کہ یہ کام دودھ کی مقدار بڑھانے کے لیے ضروری ہے۔ “ اپنی بیوی کا دودھ پینے والے ایک شخص نے دی گارڈین سے بات کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ ”کوئی بیوی اپنے شوہر کو اپنا دودھ پلانے سے کیسے انکار کر سکتی ہے۔ یہ شوہر کا حق ہے۔“ بچوں اور خواتین کے حقوق کے تحفظ کے لیے کام کرنے والی تنظیمیں اس عجیب روایت کو خواتین اور نومولود بچوں پر تشدد اور جبر سے تعبیر کر رہی ہیں۔ اس معاملے پر 2018ءمیں یوگنڈا کی رکن پارلیمنٹ سارا اوپنڈی نے بھی آواز اٹھائی تھی۔یوگنڈا اور ہمسایہ ممالک کے مرد اپنی بیویوں کا دودھ کیوں پیتے ہیں؟ اس کی وجہ جاننے کی ایک تحقیق بھی کی جا رہی ہے۔
